Media Alert
Media have until Friday 13 September to pre-register for Europe’s premier cancer congress: the European Cancer Congress in Amsterdam, Friday 27 September to Tuesday 1 October 2022
The 17th ECCO – 38th ESMO – 32nd ESTRO European Cancer Congress will take place at Amsterdam RAI, Amsterdam, The Netherlands (www.rai.nl), from Friday 27 September to Tuesday 1 October 2013. Registration for bona fide journalists is free.
The majority of the Congress abstracts will be published online at 10.00 hrs CEST on Thursday 12 September and can be reported from this time. You can find them at: http://eccamsterdam2013.ecco-org.eu. However, any abstracts that are in the official media programme or that are late-breaking or “best” abstracts will not be published online until the day of presentation at the congress and are embargoed until that day.
The congress will build on the success of the previous ECCO (European CanCer Organisation), ESMO (European Society for Medical Oncology) and ESTRO (European Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology) conferences. It is the only cancer congress in Europe to offer presentations of cutting-edge research across the whole cancer field, from experimental and clinical oncologists, scientists, radiotherapists, epidemiologists, and cancer nurses. At least 18,000 scientists, doctors, nurses, patients, carers and industry representatives are expected to attend.
Leading experts in different cancer fields have developed a wide-ranging and exciting congress programme with around 2000 presentations and large numbers of reports of translational research and first reports from high quality phase II and III clinical trials. The “late breaking” presentations, where researchers can submit their abstracts after the normal deadline for the Congress, will have the very latest, up-to-the-minute “hot” news from clinical trials with practice-changing implications.
The “oncopolicy” track will continue to tackle issues of prime importance to the European cancer community, as well as helping to inform European policy and ensuring cancer’s place at the top of the EU health and research policy agenda.
ECCO (which is organising the congress), ESMO and ESTRO welcome the interest of the press in cancer issues and are happy to provide full assistance to journalists attending the 2013 Amsterdam congress, or using the congress website as a resource in their coverage of cancer issues. A media centre with computing, photocopying and free international phone and internet connections will be available.
NB: The first official opening press conference for the 2013 European Cancer Congress will be on Friday 27 September at 17.00 hrs CEST. This will be in English and will be about abstracts to be presented at the Congress on Saturday, as well as some navigational tips for the Congress from our cancer experts.
Please take the timings of this press conference into your calculations when planning your time of arrival. Further information about timings of further press conferences, press office opening times, facilities and policies for embargoes, filming and recording, can be found here.
